Disposable Compressed Towels (Washcloths)

In many parts of the world washcloths are not a standard amenity provided in hotels or B&Bs. They are often viewed as personal items that travelers are expected to pack themselves. People in some countries may simply use their hands to wash, or they may use a loofah or other exfoliating tools.

What is the solution if you prefer to use a washcloth? Washcloths can often be purchased by travelers in local stores in destination countries. Travelers can also opt to pack their own, but packing a washcloth can present other challenges. If you're packing multiple washcloths, they can take up valuable space in your suitcase. Plus, dealing with used damp, washcloths can be problematic as they could mildew everything in your suitcase. If you choose to pack your own washcloths, opt for a compact, quick-drying type such as a thin microfiber washcloth (like this) made of polyester, nylon, or polyamide. Some people prefer to pack loofahs or body sponges as alternatives.

One option a lot of travelers find as the best solution are disposable compressed towels. The ones I recommend (Amazon Link) are made of 100% rayon fabric which are unscented, sturdy, and reusable (usually 2-3 times). These compressed towel tablets are individually wrapped and easy to carry in a suitcase, backpack, bag, or purse. They quickly transform into full-sized (11x9.5 inches) cloth with just a tablespoon of water whenever you need a washcloth. When disposing of a used cloth, be sure not to throw them in the toilet, as they do not dissolve in water.
